India's Path to Economic Power INTRODUCTION In the realm of global economics, India and China stand as giants in Asia, each experiencing significant growth and development. While China has emerged as the world's second-largest economy, India har- bors aspirations of attaining similar economic prowess and becoming a global economic power. This article aims to delve into the comparative analysis of India and China's eco- nomic growth, identify key factors contributing to China's success, ana- lyze India's challenges, and explore strategies for India to catch up eco- nomically. COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF INDIA AND CHINA India and China have followed dis- tinct trajectories in their economic growth. China's economy has expe- rienced rapid expansion over the past few decades, driven by export- oriented manufacturing, massive in- frastructure development, and proactive government policies. In contrast, India has encountered chal- lenges in areas such as infrastructure, education, and policy implementa- tion, resulting in a slower pace of growth. REFORM AND LIBERALIZATION India embarked on economic re- forms and liberalization policies in the early 1990s, unlocking its growth potential. Deregulation, foreign di- rect investment (FDI) liberalization, and tax reforms have positively im- pacted India's economy, attracting investments and stimulating sectors such as information technology, serv- ices, and manufacturing. However, further reforms are needed to address structural bottlenecks and foster in- clusive growth. INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT Robust infrastructure serves as a crit- ical driver of economic growth. China's emphasis on developing world-class infrastructure, including transportation networks, power gen- eration, and urbanization projects, has facilitated its economic expan- sion. India, though making progress, still faces significant infrastructure gaps that impede productivity, connectivity, and efficiency. Focused investments and streamlined imple- mentation are crucial to bridge these gaps. the BANKING EXECUTIVE 26 ISSUE 173 MAY 2023 INDIA'S PATH TO ECONOMIC POWER: CATCHING UP WITH CHINA
