Arab Banks Awards & Commendations of Excellence 2021 Mr. Wissam Fattouh, Secretary Gen- eral of the Union of Arab Banks and World Union of Arab Bankers wel- comed the guests in his inauguration speech and said “I am pleased to speak to your honorable gathering, and I have the honor to welcome His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Jarrah Al-Sabah, Chairman of Kuwait Inter- national Bank (KIB) and Chairman of Union of Arab Banks for his personal presence in Lebanon, H.E Hamood Bin Sangour Al-Zadjali, Chairman of Board of Trusties, the Arab Academy for Management, Banking and Finan- cial Sciences, and Former Executive President of the of the Central Bank of Oman (CBO), and His Excellency President Dr. Joseph Torbey, Chair- man of the World Union of Arab Bankers and the Union of Arab Banks Executive Committee, His Excellency Dr. Mustafa Hadib, President of the Arab Academy for Management, Banking and Financial Sciences, and attendees from the Board of Directors of the Union of Arab Banks and World Union of Arab Bankers”. Mr. Fattouh also welcomed the re- maining attendees as he said, “I am pleased to welcome the representa- tives of the Lebanese security serv- ices, the leaders from the Lebanese army, internal security, public security and state security for honoring us with their presence and participation, and our dear guests from the Arab coun- tries, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Palestine, Jordan, Kuwait, the Emirates, Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, Qatar.” Commenting on the Award Ceremony occasion, Mr. Fattouh said, “This oc- casion honors a group of decision makers who mastered excellence and excelled through hard work and were keen to excel in the practice of the banking profession in its various branches. They had a great credit for advancing the banking profession.” On WUAB’s 15 years anniversary, Mr. Fattouh said, “Fifteen years successful economic and banking journey for the World Union of Arab Bankers have passed. Today, it is preparing for a new phase with strong determina- tion and confidence, to steadily find its way towards the future, despite dif- ficulties and challenges that it con- quered. We all know that the challenges of the coming years will be greater and the competition more intense, which requires from us all more effort, sound and conscious planning to deal with a future.” Mr. Fattouh added, “After 15 years later, the World Union of Arab Bankers continues under the leader- ship and wisdom of its President, Dr. Joseph Torbey, to play its role as a link between Beirut and other Arab and international capitals, always striving to serve the banking and financial in- dustry with all seriousness, interest and sincerity.” Mr. Fattouh continued, “Today, on this beautiful evening, we honor dis- tinguished personalities from the world of business and finance. These are men and women in economics who were able to build pioneering generations in managing the affairs of the economy, we also honor bankers who were able to make a big differ- ence at their institutions and to the Arab banking profession. And of course, we honor the medical and humanitarian institutions and person- nel who excelled in confronting the Covid pandemic, and secured protec- tion, medical and humanitarian care for society in the most difficult and dangerous and harsh conditions.” the BANKING EXECUTIVE 56 ISSUE 156 DECEMBER 2021
