The Horizon of 6G for Arab Banks INTRODUCTION 6G is the forthcoming sixth genera- tion of mobile communication tech- nology, expected around the early 2030s, designed to surpass 5G by de- livering speeds up to 1 terabit per second, latency below 0.1 millisec- onds, and seamless integration with AI-driven networks, satellite systems, and immersive Augmented and Vir- tual Reality (AR/VR) applications. It aims to enable real-time holographic communication, autonomous indus- tries, and global connectivity, though challenges such as high infrastruc- ture costs, spectrum scarcity, and cy- bersecurity risks remain central to its development, making 6G not just a faster network but a transformative leap toward an intelligent, intercon- nected digital ecosystem. This article sheds light on 6G appli- cations, its key technology enablers, the global race for 6G, the roll up of 6G in Arab countries, the challenges of 6G in Lebanon, and the regulation needed for 6G. The article explores the opportunities of 6G for banks and the road ahead for banks to embrace 6G. The article concludes with the future horizon of 6G. 6G APPLICATIONS 6G applications are expected to rev- olutionize connectivity by enabling immersive mixed reality experiences such as holographic communication and metaverse collaboration, sup- porting autonomous mobility through ultra-low latency networks for connected cars and drones, en- hancing critical emergency services with resilient disaster-proof commu- nication, expanding global internet access by integrating terrestrial and satellite systems to bridge the digital divide, powering massive digital twins for smart cities and industrial ecosystems, and embedding Artifi- cial Intelligence AI-driven communi- cation that allows networks to self-optimize and deliver context- aware services, collectively trans- forming healthcare, industry, entertainment, and public safety into a seamlessly interconnected digital environment. 6G will support holographic com- munication, shared AR/VR experi- ences, and metaverse environments with real-time responsiveness, mak- ing virtual collaboration and enter- tainment seamless. Ultra-low latency networks will enable connected ve- hicles, drones, and smart transport systems to operate safely and effi- ciently, supporting autonomous driv- ing and traffic optimization. 6G networks will prioritize emergency communication during disasters, en- suring uninterrupted connectivity for first responders and public safety sys- tems. By integrating terrestrial and satellite networks, 6G will extend digital services to underserved and rural regions, bridging the digital di- vide. Industries will use 6G to pro- duce real-time digital replicas of factories, cities, and ecosystems, en- abling predictive maintenance, smart city planning, and sustainability monitoring. Native AI integration will allow networks to self-optimize, offload computation, and deliver context-aware services, making com- munication more adaptive and intel- ligent.
