The Banking Executive Magazine - August Issue

the BANKING EXECUTIVE 44 ISSUE 200 AUGUST 2025 FinTech and AI Chornicle Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic concept confined to lab- oratories or speculative reports. It has entered boardrooms, trading floors, hospitals, and even households, re- shaping the way societies produce, consume, and organize themselves. The question is no longer whether AI will replace humans in many occu- pations, but what comes after. For economists, central bankers, finan- cial institutions, and policymakers— particularly in the Arab world—this question is both urgent and strategic. The answers require sober reflection, careful economic planning, and a recognition that the post-AI economy will not simply be a faster version of today’s economy, but something fun- damentally different. AI AND THE LOGIC OF REPLACEMENT The economic argument for AI re- placing humans is straightforward. Algorithms process data at unprece- dented speeds, reduce error margins, and offer consistency in a way no human workforce can. In banking, AI already evaluates credit risk, detects fraud, automates compliance checks, and executes trades faster than sea- soned professionals. In healthcare, it scans images with accuracy rivaling the most experienced doctors. In lo- gistics, it coordinates supply chains with efficiency unmatched by tradi- tional planning. AI WILL REPLACE MOST HUMANS BUT THEN WHAT?
